Our Thoughts Make Us Sick: The Impact of Negative Thinking on Our Health
We all experience negative thoughts from time to time. Some people more than others. They can creep into our minds like unwelcome guests, casting dark clouds over our day. While it’s normal to have occasional negative thoughts, what many people don’t realize is the profound impact these thoughts can have on our physical and mental well-being.
In my book “Unlock the Power Within: Discover the Secrets to Energy and Healing” I discuss in detail, with scientific evidence and personal experiences, the connection between our thoughts and our health, diving into the ways negative thinking can make us sick.
I also talk about strategies and techniques to break free from this cycle and nurture a healthier, more positive mindset. Here I’m going to add the V2V Method – From Victim to Victory.
The Mind-Body Connection
To understand how our thoughts can make us sick, it’s essential to grasp the mind-body connection. Our mind and body are not separate entities but intricately linked. Your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs can influence your physical health in profound ways.
In my book, I specify that the thoughts we have, the emotions we feel and the energy they produce can impact our health in tremendous ways.
When we dwell on anxious thoughts, entertain self-doubt, or constantly worry, our body reacts as if it’s under threat. This response triggers the release of stress hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline, which prepare your body for a “fight or flight” reaction. While this response is helpful in short bursts, chronic stress from negative thinking can wreak havoc on your health.
Dr Mindy Peltz has a very informative channel on YouTube. In one of her videos, she quite rightfully says the only way to eliminate that cortisol, from our system, is to get up and walk or do some squats on the spot or any form of physical activity.
The Physical Toll of Negative Thinking
When we stress too much, overthink or think negatively, we weaken our immune system. This makes us more susceptible to illnesses, viruses and bacteria. We can end up with cardiovascular issues due to an increase in blood pressure when we’re under duress. We suffer gastric issues that can range from mild acid reflux to irritable bowel syndrome all the way to more serious conditions.
Since we suffer digestive issues, it follows that we’re not absorbing quality nutrients essential for the body’s proper functioning and reparation. This means that we’ll end up with aches and pains, foggy minds and fatigue.
Due to an accumulation of these symptoms, we’ll suffer sleep deprivation or poor quality sleep, which will only worsen our mental state, thereby causing anxiety and even depression, which in turn can become more serious mental health issues.
If you’re reading this and you’re young, don’t think doesn’t apply to you. Illness in the body isn’t something that happens overnight. It’s a process. It starts with one negative thought that leads to another and another. Over time, the accumulation of all these negative thoughts is what causes discomfort and dis-ease in the body.
Holding on to anger, resentment, regret and grudges; seeking revenge or spending your time in any negative pursuits that cause negativity in the mind, creates negative emotions that are so powerful they create the equivalent of a tsunami of negative energy. After prolonged periods of sustaining this type of energy and mindset, the body will get sick.
It’s essential to remember that all everyone wants in life is to be happy. When we’re not, we spiral downward into sadness, helplessness, hopelessness, despair and, eventually depression and sickness.
Breaking Free from Negative Thinking the V2V Method Way
There are many ways to effectively break free from negative thinking. In the “V2V Method – From Victim to Victory,” the first and most essential step – VERITAS – is to be aware of our thoughts to understand where they came from, why they emerged, and how they’re making us feel emotionally, mentally and physically.
Once we understand them, we can use Step 2 of the “V2V Method” – KINESIS – to stop them dead in their tracks before they have a chance to evolve.
In the final step – VALOR – we use techniques to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. We learn to give ourselves value and reinforce a positive mindset that equates to healthier, happier, emotions and a better state of health.
A Healthier Mind, a Healthier You
Even to the most sceptical among you, it must be clear that your thoughts can indeed make you sick, but the reverse is also true. By nurturing a positive mindset and adopting healthy thinking patterns, we can all significantly improve our physical and mental health. We can also learn to control our emotions.
Breaking free from negative thinking is a journey and a process, one that is not an easy one. It’s okay to seek help along the way. Your health and well-being are worth it.
